A FAMILY TRADITION

Coming to Big Mario’s Pizza feels like coming home and that is because we are a family place run by the family. Our pizza place was founded by Mario Vellotti, who came to New York City from Naples, Italy in 1964. While there, he worked in some of the most famous pizza restaurants of the time, including Nanni Al Valletto on 59thStreet. Mario joined his uncle and brother to open pizza places in all five New York City boroughs, including Patricia’s in the Bronx. Mario moved to Seattle, bringing his knowledge of quality pizza for you to enjoy.

As soon as you enter our place, you will be greeted with a friendly smile and welcomed to check out our menu. Take your time and ask us any questions you may have; we are happy to help. We make our pizzas and calzones to order using only the freshest ingredients. We know you will love everything you try at our Fremont pizza restaurant.

LIFE IN FREMONT

If you love the bohemian lifestyle, then the Fremont neighbourhood of Seattle is the perfect place for you. This vibrant, arty community is located along the Lake Washington Ship Canal, just south of the Wallingford Park Zoo, north of Queen Anne and east of Ballard. Fremont was named for the hometown of its founders, Fremont, Nebraska. It was its own city until it became part of Seattle in 1891.

Walkthrough Fremont and you will see several interesting features that make this neighbourhood unique, such as the Fremont Troll under the Aurora Bridge, the Fremont Rocket, and the sculpture “Waiting for the Interurban.” Quirky signs can be found on the streets, telling residents to "set your watch back five minutes” and more.

The neighbourhood is packed with independent shops and restaurants offering a diverse selection to enjoy. Several annual events are held by the Fremont Arts Council to bring together residents and visitors, such as the Summer Solstice Parade & Pageant. There are several parks providing plenty of outdoor recreation, such as Fremont Peak Park and Ernst Park. On Sundays, head over to the Fremont Sunday Market for art and food trucks.

Families with children have several educational opportunities in Fremont through the Seattle Public School District and with private schools. One option is the B.F. Day Elementary School, which opened in 1892 and is the longest continuously running school in Seattle.

Fremont’s location offers commuters easy access to downtown for work. Within the neighbourhood, there are several technology companies and nonprofit organizations, making Fremont a great option for both work and play.

For an artsy, interesting neighbourhood that always seems to be changing and growing, check out Fremont. It welcomes people from diverse backgrounds to visit and learn more about the community and to consider making it their home.
